town square

You will notice that the Hancock Town Square has gone dark in the evenings this month and next. Sadly this is because NYSEG has raised our electric costs to nearly five times our normal rate.

As we fight these unfair charges, we just want the public to know why the lights will be offline, we apologize for the inconvenience. These increases are not directly related to our Christmas decorations, as we have compared these rates to last year at Christmas, with similar lights and period of time online.

Please note that when the lights and extension cords are buried under excessive snow we cannot access them to remove them until warmer weather advances, and flipping the main turns off our security system and safety lights.

We encourage all local residents to write to NYSEG and discuss these ongoing rate increases across our entire state and community, and urge people to reach out to your local elected officials, and congressional leaders such as Rep. Josh Riley who is personally taking on NYSEG and these enormous rate increases.

We hope this outreach will help bring welcome relief for our senior citizens and our local families struggling with these rate increases as well!
